In April, 1941, a group of visionaries from the Altus business community filed Articles of Incorporation with the State of Oklahoma to establish the Altus Chamber of Commerce as an Oklahoma corporation. Before that time, the Chamber had existed as the Altus Civic and Commercial Club since 1908, but the actions of W.O. Goodman, H.W. Cotner, Carroll Spangler, and Hugh Garnett would open a new and exciting chapter in the history of the Altus business community.

Thursday marked 75 years since the Altus Chamber of Commerce became an official Oklahoma corporation. “The Chamber of Commerce has been dedicated to serving Altus every day since its inception. The vision of those business leaders in 1941 carried out the legacy that was established in 1908 and has grown into an organization that continually focuses on advancing the economic, industrial, professional, cultural, and civic welfare of the Altus area,” explains Brian Bush, President & CEO.
