Current Miss Altus Lexie Herron will be traveling to Tulsa tomorrow for contestant weekend. The event is held each year ahead of the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant in June.
Herron was crowned Miss Altus at the 46th annual “Touch of Class” Miss Altus Pageant in February. She was one of 10 girls vying for the title. Herron also won Miss Photogenic, Physical Fitness, Pose and Elegance and a $2,000 Western Oklahoma State College scholarship.
Herron, 17, attends Altus High School and is the daughter of Lynne Herron and Shannon Herron. She plans to obtain a bachelors degree and be a special education teacher. Her platform was A.B.L.E. (Allow, Believe, Love, Encourage).
In order for contestants to be prepared for the 2016 Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant, Contestant Weekend is held in Tulsa where the young women will get a chance to perform their pageant talent. In the afternoon, they will have production rehearsals, and drawings will be held for their placement in the pageant.
The Miss Oklahoma Talent Revue will be held on Saturday evening at the Tulsa Community College south campus. Special guest for the event will be Susan Powell, Miss America 1981, and will feature Lauren Nelson, Miss America 2007, along with 18 other talented women. This event is held as a Miss Oklahoma Scholarship fundraiser.
Local organizers say that Miss Altus is always the envy of all the other contestants in Tulsa because she is gifted with the use of a new car from Wilmes’ each year. Brewer’s Auto also supplies Miss Altus with gas for the trip.
