The Salvation Army of Altus needs your help this spring cleaning season.
Do you have gently used old dresses, shirts, pants or other items such as couches, chairs, tables, small appliances that need to be “recycled?” Your donations to The Salvation Army help change lives.
“Unfortunately, The Salvation Army is running very low on clothing, furniture, and small appliance donations,” said Major Ben Walters of the Altus Salvation Army. “We want the public to know donations to the Altus Salvation Army Family Store help us feed the hungry, help with utility assistance, provide emergency clothing and much more to local citizens right here in our own community.”
The store is located at 110 N. Main in downtown Altus. The Red Shield represents help, hope and home to people all across the world. Members of the community are able to “Be A Shield” and make a large impact on those in need in Jackson and Greer Counties just by shopping at the Salvation Army Family Store, and by making tax-deductible donations to the Family store. Proceeds from the store help provide programs and services here in our community.
Major Ben Walters said, “We have a large truck, so we can come to you and pick up your large donations. Just give our office a call at 580-482-8577 or the Family Store at 580-482-4236 to schedule a donation pick-up.”
The Salvation Army offers a multitude of services to help those in need including but not limited to: food, shelter and clothing, emotional and spiritual care, utility assistance, Christmas assistance, emergency disaster services, and counseling and life skills. In 2015, the Altus Salvation Army provided 28 families with energy assistance, 222 families with groceries, 497 hot meals served during the 2015 ice storm disaster, 5,369 Soup Kitchen meals, 6,271 articles of clothing, Christmas food baskets to 192 families, and Christmas toys to 416 children.
