‘Healthy, Happy, Hungry You’ series to be presented at library

Do you want to empower yourself to make healthy decisions? How can a person engage in self-care and avoid or manage chronic diseases? How can nutrition affect the mind, body, and spirit? If these are some questions that you need answered or some motivation to start and keep healthy habits, you will want to attend four free workshops for adults and teenagers to be offered in April.

These workshop series called “Healthy, Happy, Hungry You!” will start Monday, April 4. The other sessions will be held every consecutive Monday in April with the final session on April 25. The time will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Altus Public Library, 421 N. Hudson.

Meegan Mackay will be the facilitator for each workshop. She has designed each session to consist of a 15-minute introduction and interaction; a 30-minute presentation with audio and visual content; a 30-minute tactile, audio, and visual exercise; and a 15-minutes summary and review.

“I plan the content of all the interactive workshops around the three aspects of health, happiness and hunger,” stated Meegan. “I believe that individuals can achieve enjoyment and success with L.I.F.E. skills (Look and Listen, Imagine, Focus, and Empower), which I will teach in the health workshops.

Mackay is the founder of the Artes pro Vita Academy (AVA)., when translated means “Skills for Life.” This facilitator has over 25 years of education and experience in the financial and government sectors.

Register by calling 580-477-2890 at the Altus Public Library. The Southern Prairie Library System and the Great Plains Literacy Council are sponsoring the workshops. Financial assistance for this special health literacy project is made possible with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered through the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.

After all these workshops, attendees will learn to obtain, process, and understand reliable health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions, plus gain motivation to improve or maintain health.
