Toastmaster Bill Vincent of the Altus Red River Toastmasters Club was recently recognized for completion of roles and projects designed to enhance his skills as a leader.
He earned his Competent Leadership Award by fulfilling specific leadership tasks and roles as a club member. To achieve the award of Competent Leader, members must complete projects that enhance their abilities to listen, think critically, plan, facilitate, motivate, mentor and build a team.
Bill Vincent has been a Toastmaster since 2011 and has served as the club’s past Secretary and the District’s Sergeant at Arms for the past two years. He is also a member of the advanced Toastmasters Amplified club that meets in Lawton once a month. Bill has been a staple of the Altus community for years and is best known for being the lively and charismatic Greeter at the local Walmart with his good humor and storytelling skills.
Bill was born in Kalispell, Montana, and spent 28 years in Salem, Oregon. He has worked as a clerk at Fred Myers and as a school bus driver in both Oregon and Montana before retiring and moving to Altus. Bill has been married 32 years, is a Father of three and Grandfather of 6. Unfortunately for his friends in the community, the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, and the Red River Toastmasters club, Bill will be moving to Portland, Oregon, to be closer to family. While he will be greatly missed, he plans to visit Altus regularly and, of course, visit the Red River club when he can.
The Red River Toastmasters Club meets each Tuesday at the Southwest Technology Center from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Guests are welcome to attend at any time.
