Duke speech team seeks state bid

As a team in 2015-2016, Duke Speech won two first place Sweepstakes and two second place Sweepstakes awards.


The Duke High School Speech team will compete in the OSSAA Southwest Oklahoma Regional Tourney, March 11-12, on the SWOSU campus in Weatherford.

The team qualified 22 events in three regular-season tournaments, 17 team members will be competing for Duke. Students will compete in two preliminary rounds trying to advance to Regional Finals. Once students make and compete in Finals, State bids are determined based on the total number of entries per region. Typically, the top four competitors in each event advance to the State Tournament April 7-9 at the University of Oklahoma.

Regional competitors for Duke High School:

Standard Oratory: Noah Claussen, Tommy McGee, Haley Thompson and Taylor Smith.

Humorous Interp: Garrett Earls and Orin McGee

Dramatic Interp: Lauren Vick

Foreign Extemp: Marshall Durrence

Domestic Extemp: Noah Claussen, Garrett Meza and Luke Milner

Prose Interp: Braden Edmonds, Kaitlyn Hill and Taylor Smith

Humorous Duet: Lucas Bales & Braden Edmonds, Jaylan Hamersley & Berritt Strawn, Marshall Durrence & Orin McGee

Dramatic Duet: Kaitlyn Hill & Hogan Hall, Jaylan Hamersley & Caitlyn Osborne
