Staff Reports

The Coffee Cup Bunch of the Friends of the Library will enjoy a reading by Yvonne Carpenter of Clinton at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2 at the Altus Public Library. Carpenter is one of the Custer County Truck Stop Poets whose book “Red Dirt Roads: Sketches of Western Oklahoma” was named Oklahoma Book of the Year for Poetry in 2014 by the Oklahoma Center for the Book. The book also contains poems by Carol Waters of Cordell, Clynell Reinschmiedt of Edmond, Catherine McGraw of Weatherford, and Nancy Goodwin of Clinton.

“As soon as I read Yvonne’s poem titled “The Faded Tractor, I knew our Coffee Cup Bunch would enjoy hearing more of the poems in this recently published anthology,” explained Jennie Buchanan, program chair for the Coffee Cup Bunch. “Their work really captures what’s true and honest about life in Southwest Oklahoma.”

The Coffee Cup Bunch meets at 10 a.m. on the first Wednesday of every month at the Altus Public Library. The meetings are free and open to the public.
