Toastmasters to host international speech contest

Local Toastmasters members are getting ready to challenge their speaking abilities in order to become more proficient speakers.


The Red River Toastmasters Club of Altus will host their local International Speech and Table Topics Contest and Evaluation Contest on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at the Southwest Technology Center located at 711 West Tamarack Road. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m. and the contest will begin promptly at 6 p.m. Contestants from the local Toastmasters Club will compete for a spot in the upcoming Area Speech Contest.

The Red River Toastmaster Club welcomes all members of the community to come to this entertaining contest to cheer on the competitors and discover what Toastmasters is all about.

The purpose of the International Speech Contest is to provide opportunities for speakers to challenge their speaking abilities, to provide learning opportunities for members and the audience by observing more proficient speakers. The Table Topics Contest is designed for contestants to use their best impromptu speaking abilities by presenting a one-to-two minute response to a selected question of which they will have no prior knowledge. Winners of the local contest will advance to the Area International Speech and Table Topics Contest scheduled for March 5th in Lawton.

The Red River Toastmasters Club holds meetings each Tuesday at the Southwest Technology Center from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to attend.
