Centerpoint Energy will construct a drainage culvert to keep water out of its operations facility adjacent to this alleyway.

The Altus City Council approved a resolution Tuesday to close a city alley to public use. The alley is the north/south alley lying between Corbin Avenue on the north and “D” Street on the south.

Centerpoint Energy has a tower and part of an above ground facility located in that alley. The alley needs to be vacated because Centerpoint needs to construct a drainage culvert to keep water out of the operations facility adjacent to the alleyway. The alley is not currently in use, but Centerpoints is knowledging that the alleyway will need to be vacated.

An ordinance should be passed on March 22 that will close a portion of this platted alley to public use. It was also explained that this will not affect any existing utility easement. Under state law the City will still have the right to continue to maintain/replace any existing utilities.
