A fruit tree management meeting and field day has been scheduled in Altus for this Saturday, Feb. 16. The meeting will be held at the Jackson County Farm Bureau Office.
The morning portion of the meeting will include topics covering site selection and soils, cultivar selection and planting, plant nutrition, weed control, fruit tree pruning and training, and pest control. The afternoon part of the meeting will be conducted at the Glenn Winters home site orchard and include soil management and irrigation, how to plant a tree, hands on demo of tree pruning and training, blackberry management, and gopher control.
Speakers at this meeting will include Becky Carroll, from the Department of Horticulture, Jimmy Carroll, Cimarron Valley Research Station-OSU, and Steve Upson, Horticulture Division, Noble Foundation.
For those interested in fruit tree management this should be an informative meeting. Pre-registration is requested (but not required) by noon on Feb. 12, at the Jackson County OSU Extension Office, by calling 580-482-0823. A free sponsored lunch will be provided at this meeting.
