New Toastmasters Club at Altus Air Force Base

by Lana Bunch, - VP of Public Relations

Do you want to become a confident public speaker and strong leader? Would you like to overcome the fear of public speaking or give better presentations? If so, the newly chartered Burning Spear Toastmasters Club on Altus Air Force Base is for you! Any active duty or retired military members, civilian employees and spouses wanting or needing to improve their communication and leadership skills now have access to a Toastmasters Club right on Altus Air Force Base.

On Tuesday, Jan. 19, the Burning Spears Toastmasters Club has an informative meeting planned, demonstrating how a club meeting works and the benefits of Toastmasters. Oklahoma Toastmasters’ Program Quality Director, Doug Weeks, Division K Director, Paula Weeks and Area Director, Karen Clymer, will be on hand to support and answer questions about the new club and Toastmasters. There will also be guest speakers and mentors from the President’s Distinguished Red River Toastmasters Club present to assist with the meeting.

To achieve success in any area today, be it personal or professional, capable and competent communications skills are a must. Having a Toastmasters Club that serves the military community can be instrumental in providing skills needed for military careers and beyond. Warren Buffet once said, “If you improve your communication skills, I guarantee you that you will earn fifty percent more money over your lifetime.” Whether you are military or civilian, the development of excellent communication skills is absolutely essential to effective leadership and achieving success in your profession.

With a convenient location for the military community and their families, the Burning Spear Toastmasters Club will provide opportunities to actively participate in speaking and leadership roles at each meeting, along with opportunities to compete in speech contests, leadership training and District events. Having access to these types of learning opportunities and cultivating these skills can have a life-long impact on club members and the community.
