How to dispose of your Christmas tree

When disposing of live Christmas trees, put them in your alley or take them to the local landfill.

The most common question of every New Year may very well be, “What do I do with my Christmas tree?” The City of Altus does not have a designated place for trees other than the landfill. To dispose of Christmas trees, residents may take them to the landfill or place them in the alley for pickup.

If you take your tree to the landfill, take a copy of a recent utility bill and a photo ID and dumping fees can be waived (up to 1,500 pounds per residence per month). If placing your tree in the alley, make sure not to obstruct access to utility meters or dumpsters and do not block the alley. Trees will be picked up within 90 days. Do not place Christmas trees in dumpsters.

The City of Altus appreciates your cooperation and wishes everyone a happy and prosperous New Year.
