Fireworks aren’t just for the July 4th holiday. A lot of people use them for various celebrations from wedding, birthdays, the Altus Bulldogs winning the Class 5A State Championship in football and more. One popular use for fireworks is to celebrate the new year.

There are fireworks stands open around the area, but citizens are reminded that it is illegal to shoot off fireworks within the city limits of Altus.

Safe alternatives to fireworks include fire-less fireworks such as ready-made poppers and confetti bottles that can be found at most variety stores such as Walmart and Walgreens. You can also celebrate with glow sticks, pinatas, bubbles, silly string, confetti eggs, and popping confetti-filled balloons.

Celebrating can also be done with noise makers, whistles, and a variety of horns. Citizens are also reminded that shooting guns off in the celebration of New Year’s is also illegal within the city limits.
