UPDATE – Normal operations at Altus AFB

staff reports

ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – Despite winter storms and power outages, the 97th Air Mobility Wing is continuing to operate in normal status. All entry points are operational during standard hours.

The Mighty 97th is currently utilizing generator power to supply parts of the installation, but commercial power is expected to be restored within 24 hours.

The City of Altus asks base personnel to continue conserving water; please use only what is necessary. Excess water use can create problems at the waste water treatment plant.

Altus Air Force Base urges caution during the holiday weekend. Whether traveling or staying home, stop and keep safety first. Take every precaution to ensure you and those around you are safe, including proper cold-weather clothing and vehicles are winter-ready for travel.

Research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows a dramatic increase in alcohol-related car crashes and fatalities over the holiday. Have a plan if you are going to drink alcohol this New Year’s. If that plan falls through, call 481-RIDE to get home safe.
