One shot in gunfire exchange

Altus Police responded to a shooting on N. Willard Wednesday, Dec. 23. The call was reported shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday night at 1704 N. Willard.

According to Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy, a soon-to-be ex husband showed up at the victims house and forced his way in after discovering another man in the home. Murphy said that gunfire was exchanged between the male subjects.

“The ex then left and was located at his residence at 608 Lila,” said Murphy. “He had received a gunshot wound to the leg.”

The man was then treated at Jackson County Memorial Hospital and later released. The second male subject was located at a residence on Sycamore Street.

Murphy said that investigators interviewed and released both subjects. The case will be submitted to the Jackson County District Attorneys Office for review and possible charges being filed.

Murphy added taht the homeowner and a small child, who was also present during the shooting, were not injured.
