staff reports

The Shortgrass Arts and Humanities Council is pleased to announce that local artist and Altus High School Art Specialist, Bobby Avila, will be offering a Basic Drawing Workshop for teens and tweens. The workshop will be presented at the Altus Public Library from 6 to 9 p.m. on Jan. 11, 12, and 14, 2016. This class is for children and young adults ages 12 to 18. The cost of the class is $30 and all materials will be provided.

Bobby Avila, the instructor for the workshop, is a graduate of Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a degree in art education. He has been teaching in the Altus Public School System for the last several years. Bobby enjoys many forms of art and admits that he does not have a favorite medium. He loves working with everything from pencil to clay. For this class, Bobby will be teaching the principles of watercolor painting. He hopes to encourage his students to “think outside the box” and to be expressive as they expand their artistic talents. All of the students who attend his classes are very enthusiastic about his instruction techniques. Working with Bobby in one of his workshops is a refreshing experience for both beginning and advanced students.

Contact the library at 477-2890 for information on this class or any of the classes to be offered this fall.

The Shortgrass Arts Institute classes are sponsored by the Shortgrass Arts and Humanities Council and the Southern Prairie Library System. These classes are made possible in part by a grant from the Oklahoma Arts Council.
