Blood drive to be held at Emmanuel Baptist

staff reports

Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) and Emmanuel Baptist Church are partnering this holiday season for a blood drive to be held on Sunday, Dec 13, to help those in local hospitals. Donors, 16 years old* and beyond, are welcome between noon and 3 p.m.

The brief act of holiday generosity can save as many as three lives. Yet, it typically takes only an hour to give blood.

Blood donors will have no trouble getting in the giving spirit with the chance to win a seven-day Caribbean cruise. The vacation for two is provided by Cruises, Inc. A gift card to help with ground travel expenses to the port of Galveston, Texas, will also be provided to the winning donor. Each donor will receive a nautical-themed T-shirt.

Jackson County Memorial and some 150 other state hospitals rely on OBI donors for all blood needed by their patients.

If donors prefer, they can forgo their T-shirts to support the Global Blood Fund. In turn, OBI will make a monetary contribution to this international charity supporting blood centers in countries lacking even the basics for a safe and secure blood supply.

Appointments for the blood drive can be made by calling 877-340-8777 or visiting obi.org.

*16 year olds must weigh at least 125 and provide signed parental permission; 17 year olds must weigh at least 125 pounds; 18+ year olds must weigh at least 110 pounds * Must be 18 years old to qualify for the cruise.
