At Tuesday’s Altus City Council meeting, council was given information on Lock Box banking services, by City Clerk Treasurer Debbie Davis.
It was said that the Utility Department receives about 4,000 pieces of mail monthly, and a total of 5,500 pieces within the City. All the mail is currently handled by utility employees and is very time consuming.
“With Lock Box services all of our accounts receivables will be mailed to an off site high security location,” said Davis. The payments will then be posted, and uploaded to the City of Altus System. This banking service will give utility staff time for other duties.
Davis added, “The Lock Box service will be beneficial to the City of Altus, and will be a positive new change. No city jobs will be affected, nor will there be any added expenses.”
The council approved to award the banking service to the best bidder as recommended by staff, based on proposals received. Six bids for the service have been received.
