Local drivers place in state driving contest

Elena Briscoe, Tomas Revilla and Randy Sherman all received awards in the recent Oklahoma Transit Driving Championship.


Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group, Inc. sent three of its Southwest Transit drivers to the “Chase for the State Roadeo Cup” that was recently held in Oklahoma City. These drivers were in competition with other transit systems from across the state.

The competition was held at the Joe Carter Lot at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. A driving course, written examination, timed pre-trip inspection and timed wheelchair boarding and securement for shuttle buses and mini-vans were given to all drivers.

Tomas Revilla won 2nd place in the driving course of mini-van category. Randy Sherman won wheelchair boarding and securement and 4th place in the shuttle bus driving course. Randy was the 2014 Champion from Oklahoma and competed nationally in Tampa, Fla. in May 2015. Rookie of the Year for Shuttle Bus went to Elena Briscoe.

Neil Montgomery, Executive Director, said, “Southwest Oklahoma has some talented drivers working in public transportation. Southwest Transit provides over 100,000 trips with about 800,000 revenue miles annually. We are dedicated to providing a quality transit service.”
