Altus Police are investigating an accident with injury that left two pedestrians injured after they were struck by a vehicle in the 2100 block of E. Broadway.

According to Police Chief Tim Murphy, the accident happened Thursday morning at approximately 9:21 a.m. The driver of a 2008 Toyota pickup, Terry Krause, 66, was said to be east bound on Broadway, and for an unknown reason, veered to the right of the roadway and into a small construction area. The area was marked with traffic cones.

“The trucks passenger side mirror struck a worker,” said Murphy. Hit was Darin Dayton, 44. The truck then continued east and struck another worker, Anthony Scott, 31.

Murphy said that new concrete had just been poured to the entrance of the Napa Auto Parts store at 2108 E. Broadway, where the two men were working.

Scott was transported to Jackson County Memorial Hospital for his injuries and was later released. Dayton refused medical treatment.

Murphy said that the driver of the pickup was not injured, but was arrested and transported to Jackson County Memorial Hospital by law enforcement on suspicion of driving under the influence. Krause later submitted to blood tests while at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Murphy added that Krause was cited and released, on his own recognizance, due to medical conditions.
