The Mangum Mounties are gearing up for their annual rodeo that will be held next week, June 19 and 20 as part of Wild West Days. Rodeo events begin nightly at 8 p.m. at the Mangum Mountain Arena.
The Rafter D Rodeo contractors will bring their well-known stock to the arena. There will be local riders along with appearances by Slim Garner the Rodeo Clown. Events for the rodeo will include Ranch Bronc, Double Mugging, Tie Down Calf Roping, Jr. Barrel Racing, Open Barrel Racing, Breakaway, Team Roping and Bull Riding.
Ahead of the Saturday rodeo action will be a parade on June 20 at 11 a.m. There will be cash prizes awarded for floats, horseback riding clubs and antique car entries. A barbecue will be held on the downtown courthouse square following the parade. All parade participants will receive free tickets to this event. The barbecue is being served by the Red River Cowboy Church and will consist of barbecue, baked beans, chips, pickles, onions and a drink. To-go plates will be available.
Advance rodeo tickets are now on sale at local Mangum businesses including The Loop and Dwayne’s Auto.
In association with the rodeo events is a Chuckwagon Breakfast being sponsored by the Old Greer County Western Heritage Association. The breakfast will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. on the downtown square, and will consist of biscuits, gravy, eggs, sausage, bacon and coffee.
