According to reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, two men drowned on Sunday at Tom Steed Lake. Reports state that deaths were the result of a boat crash. Tom Steed Lake is about eight miles north of Snyder.
Kenneth Austin, 81, of Altus, and Jerry Austin, 77, of El Paso, Texas, died at Tom Steed Lake after their boat hit a large underwater boulder while on the lake Sunday, Oct. 25.
Reports state that the men fell inside the boat, causing it to capsize. Their bodies were recovered about 30 feet from their boat.
The family reported late Sunday to authorities that the two hadn’t returned from a boating trip at Tom Steed Lake.
A medical examiner at the scene pronounced both men dead. The boat was found in about 5 to 6 feet of water near the main boat ramp.
