The Salvation Army of Altus, which serves Jackson and Greer Counties, is preparing to help those in need once again this Christmas by taking applications for Christmas food and toy assistance Nov. 2-5, and Nov. 9.
Last year this community helped provide almost 150 families with food and 248 children with toys through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. The goal of the Angel Tree program is to make sure every child has a gift to open and food on the table for Christmas morning.
Applications for Christmas assistance will be taken Nov. 2-5 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and Nov. 9 from 2 to 6 p.m.
To apply, you will need to provide the head of household photo ID for all adults in the household, proof of birth for children ages 0-12, proof of self for all household members (SSN, CURP, IMSS), proof of income, and proof of address. Major Rhon Walters clarifies, “We ask for their proof of self only to make sure they are unique applicants (to avoid duplication of services). We do not base assistance eligibility on nationality or immigration status.”
