Flash flood watch issued as rain heads toward Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — A slow-moving storm system is expected to bring much-needed rain to Oklahoma, but forecasters say it also carries the risk of flash flooding in many areas.

The National Weather Service says the storm system will move out of Texas and New Mexico and into Oklahoma on Wednesday evening and in the overnight hours. A flash flood watch is in effect for western counties and the Oklahoma Panhandle, and forecasters say it will likely be expanded.

Much of Oklahoma will see heavy rainfall through the weekend with some isolated areas seeing more than 5 inches of rain by Saturday night.

Widespread severe storms aren’t expected, though forecasters say some areas may see gusty winds and hail.
