Elevated blood sugar level reported at time of death

Altus Air Force Base reported Wednesday afternoon that a civilian was found on base unresponsive. The person was then taken to Jackson County Memorial Hospital were they were pronounced dead.

According to reports, the civilian, now identified as Kyana Daniels, 20, was on base visiting an Airman assigned to the 97th Air Mobility Wing.

Daniels was taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 30.

The name of the person was originally withheld pending notification of next of kin.

According to police reports, cause of death is pending further investigation by the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office. However, Daniels reportedly had an elevated blood sugar level at the time of her death.

The incident is also being investigated by members of the Altus Air Force Office of Special Investigations.
