Bank holds in-house chili cook-off

Herring Bank employees are gearing up for the upcoming Main Street Altus Cotton Pickin Chili Cook-Off by hosting their own in-house event. This year’s winner and chili chef chosen to represent the bank was Keith Phillips. Guest judges were Lee Richards, Dr Richard Henry, Greg Cross and John Borders.

The Main Street Altus “Cotton Pickin’ Chili Cook-Off” will be held this Saturday, Oct. 3 in downtown Altus. See inside today’s edition for a registration form or pick one up at the Main Street Altus office, 215 N. Main Street. They are also available online at www.mainstreetaltus.org.

Festivities begin at 10 a.m., with chili served beginning at 10:30 a.m. There will be trophy presentation at 2 p.m. Trophies and cash prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each division.

The event will include a lot of takes on chili, but entries will also include a barbecue contest and a salsa contest.

Several local businesses and groups are holding in-house chili cookoffs to decide which pot of chili will represent them in the downtown contest. This week, Herring Bank of Altus held a cookoff. Their winning chili was cooked by Keith Phillips who will represent the bank in Saturday’s contest.

You can purchase tasting kits for just $3, which allows you to walk around and get a taste of all of the entries you want, while supplies last.
