One dies in accident south of Altus

A Fatality collision happened south of Altus on Monday. According to reports, at about 4:40 p.m. at County Road 207 and County Road 165, one mile south and one mile east of Altus, Oklahoma in Jackson County, a 1997 Ford van driven by Johnthan Wayne Fort, 43, of Headrick, left the roadway for an unknown reason. He departed the road to the left and impacted a concrete culvert at the intersection of CR 207. The vehicle rotated 180 degrees and came to rest on it’s wheels.

Fort was taken by Jackson County EMS to Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus where he was pronounced deceased by Dr. Fitzgerald at 6:26 p.m.

A passenger, Johnthan Fort Jr., 29, of Headrick, was transported by Jackson County EMS to Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus where he was treated and released. No other vehicles were involved.

The accident is still under investigation. Seatbelts were equipped and in use, and airbags were equipped and deployed. The accident is being investigated by Trooper Alex Wilson #265 of the Kiowa County Detachment of Troop M. Assisted by Captain Johnny Freeman #40, Lt. George Dickerson #144, Trooper James Wallace #734 of the Jackson County Detachment of Troop M, Trooper Josh Tinsley #682 of the Jackson County Detachment of Troop M, Trooper Clancy Williams #777 of the Tillman County Detachment of Troop M, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson County EMS, and Altus Fire Department.
