Bond issues were on the ballot for Navajo and Duke School Districts on Tuesday. Navajo passed the $1.3M bond issue with 157 yes votes, and 43 no votes. Precinct 1 voted 14 yes and 4 no; Precinct 20 voted 100 yes and 35 no; Precinct 21 voted 14 yes and 0 no; and Precinct 23 voted 29 yes and 4 no. There a total of four absentee votes.
Duke passed their $3,045,000 bond issue with 135 yes votes to 51 against. There wre two absentee votes for the issue, and one absentee vote against. State law mandates that the bond issues had to be passed by a 60 percent supermajority. Navajo passed by 78.5 percent, and Duke passed by 72.73 percent.
The bond issue in Navajo is to fund reconstruction, remodeling and renovation of school facilities. Renovations include the installation of a new heating/air conditioning system for the junior high and high school building, and energy efficient insulation in the attic. Upgrades to lighting and electrical systems of school buildings are included, as are upgrades to safety and security. Security items include new door entry systems and security cameras.
Voters also decided to okay an annexation into the Southwest Technology District in the Hollis school district on Tuesday. Votes were 260 yes, and 99 no.
