The Red River Toastmasters Club of Altus will host their local Humorous Speech Contest and Evaluation Contest on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the Southwest Technology Center located at 711 West Tamarack Road. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m. and the contest will begin promptly at 6 p.m. Contestants from the local Toastmasters Club will compete for a spot in the upcoming Area Speech Contest.

The Red River Toastmaster Club welcomes all members of the community to come to this entertaining contest to cheer on the competitors and discover what Toastmasters is all about.

The purpose of the Humorous Speech Contest is to provide opportunities for speakers to challenge their speaking abilities, to provide learning opportunities for the audience by observing more proficient speakers and to recognize the value of humor in public speaking. The Evaluation Contest is designed for contestants to use their best evaluation skills and speaking abilities by preparing and presenting a two-to-three minute evaluation of a test speaker. Winners of the local contest will advance to the Area Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contest scheduled for Sept. 26 in Lawton.

The Red River Toastmasters Club holds meetings each Tuesday at the Southwest Technology Center from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to attend.
