Angela Howard won $500 in the Crazy Days shopping event designed to encourage area patrons to purchase products at local retailers.
The event ran Friday and Saturday at area retail stores celebrating the end of summer and the beginning of the school year. Participating merchants offered discounts and special sales in the hope of attracting shoppers from across Southwest Oklahoma and North Texas.
Shoppers submitted one receipt from a participating retailer to be entered into the drawing 5 p.m. Tuesday. Chamber staff members said there were dozens of receipts from retailers submitted from retailers who participated in the promotion event.
Key facets of the Crazy Days celebration included live entertainment with strolling musicians, food trucks, social media promotions and live radio remote broadcasts from Altus radio stations at several locations, but the opportunity for one shopper to win $500 through the receipt drawing seemed to generate the most buzz of all.
Crazy Days has been a tradition and the Chamber of Commerce has played a pivotal role, but organizers sought to make this year’s event bigger than others.
This year’s goal was for the Main Street Altus group to work closely with business owners at the Plaza and Bunker Hill shopping centers, according to a Chamber press release.
“I am extremely proud of what we were able to achieve together,” Chamber CEO Brian Bush said. “This was a new way to approach Crazy Days, but like always, our amazing Altus retailers rose to the challenge.”
According to the Chamber, businesses had favorable reports, some of which said Crazy Days was the best sales promotion in the retailer’s history.
Chamber staff members are seeking to make next year’s Crazy Days experience better and they are looking ways to do similar events in the future.
“We want to do everything we can to help Altus businesses, and we are constantly working on new and innovative ways to support the local business community,” Bush said. “We believe that is the most important function we serve as a local Chamber.”
Howard’s winning receipt was from The Booterie, but she shopped at several local retailers during the Crazy Days event, including the Cotton Patch, Enchanted Door, Abby Lane and Gems Etc.
She works OSU Extension Service and travels to Jackson, Cotton and Comanche counties.
