A local group of volunteers actively seeking to improve community health is planning to meet Friday and released an agenda for the public.
Jackson County Substance Awareness Committee or SAC is a subelement of the Jackson County Community Health Action Team or JCCHAT — an umbrella organization that oversees the work of six or more volunteer teams, each with its own unique approach to improve local quality of life.
As the name implies, the SAC works to decrease use and abuse of illegal drugs and abuse of legal and controlled substances by individuals in the county.
The group is scheduled to meet from noon to 1 p.m. Friday in the large conference room at the Jackson County Health Department, 401 W. Tamarack Road in Altus.
The meeting is scheduled to begin with a welcome and introductions, approval of June and July committee minutes, followed by a series of topics under old and new business:* Election for new officers
* Prescription drug education
* Take back container
* Underage drinking considerations:
– Dates for fall homecoming
– Public service announcements and press releases
– Meeting with the Altus Times editor
– Responsible Beverage Service and Sales or RBSS training
* Building capacity
* Suicide prevention
* Possible change to the next meeting date
Other announcements include an upcoming Synergy 2016 19th Annual Turning Point Conference slated for Aug. 31 to Sept. 1 in Norman, followed by adjournment.
Meeting attendees are encouraged to bring a lunch.
