The Southern Prairie Library System presents “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read” Summer Library Reading Program at 2 p.m. at the Altus Public Library, 421 N. Hudson St. in Altus and 10 a.m. at the Hollis Civic Center, 208 W. Jones St. in Hollis on Thursdays in June and July. The Toastmasters International District 16 speech contest winner James Wall will be speaking at the Red River Toastmasters meeting 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at the Southwest Technology Center, 711 W. Tamarack Road in Altus and and noon the same day at the Freedom Community Center, Avenue E, Building 148 on Altus Air Force Base.

The Kay Club will begin rush week with a tea party 2 p.m. July 31 at the Frazier Bank, 110 E. Broadway St. in Altus. Any upcoming high school girl is invited to attend. The Altus 12th Man Club is taking orders for 20-pound cases of Cunningham peaches through Aug. 1 as a fundraiser to delivered in mid-August, The cost is $40 a case. For information call Brian Bush at 405-471-3869 or Diane Beach at 580-471-8061.

There will be Tai Chi: Moving for better balance classes for older adults and their caregivers from 1-2 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, beginning July 6 for six weeks until Aug. 9 at the Altus Public Library, 421 N. Hudson St. This class is offered at no cost and is open to the public, but pre-registration is required by visiting or calling the Altus Public Library at 580-477-2890.

The Salvation Army of Altus is scheduled to host its sixth annual golf tournament 9 a.m. July 16 at Quartz Mountain Golf Club and will include a four-person team scramble format with prizes awarded for closest to pin, longest drive and longest putt. The net proceeds from the tournament will benefit The Salvation Army’s Soup Kitchen and food pantry and ongoing social service programs. For more information, contact Maj. The Western Oklahoma State College Foundation Inc. and WOSC will be hosting the 26th Annual Jim Holland Memorial Golf Tournament at The Greens of Altus on Aug. 13. The shotgun start, four-person scramble is set to begin at 8 a.m. Tournament registration fees are $200 per team and includes green fees, team carts, prizes, food, drinks and trophies.
