There are 73 days left until the official start of the fall season, but the community of Altus will not have to wait that long to enjoy the fall slate of city league sports.
Football is a sport long thought to be for male athletes only, but lately female athletes have become just as involved with the sport as their male counterparts. The City of Altus has created a Coed Peewee Flag Football league for any boy or girl that turned 3-4 by Jan. 1. Sign-ups will begin Monday and can be done online at altusok.gov or in person at the city clerk’s office on the second floor of the city complex.
Then there are those who one day wish to grace the playing field of their favorite National Football League team. There are those who dream of catching a pass from their generation’s Tom Brady or hoisting the Lombardy Trophy high above their head after a hard fought Super Bowl victory. For those boys from grades one through six, the City of Altus has three different divisions of tackle football available.
First- and second-graders make up the first division, third- and fourth-graders make up the second division and fifth- and sixth-graders make up the third and final division.
There is an enrollment fee of $65 and parents can sign up their children beginning Monday, online at altusok.gov or at the city clerk’s office on the second floor of the city complex. Players must have a physical and will also need to provide their own equipment.
Additionally, for the children in grades one through six in the community, the City of Altus offers cheerleading. They will learn all the necessary skills to cheer for their favorite teams and become more prepared for cheerleading once they reach the appropriate grade in school. There is a $25 enrollment fee for cheerleading and sign-ups begin on Monday. Parents can sign up their children online at altus.ok.gov or in person at the city clerk’s office on the second floor of the city complex.
It is time for all young girls age 6-13 who have dreams of Women’s National Basketball Association glory to hit the court and perfect their game at the Altus City Gym. The City of Altus began accepting sign-ups in preparation for the girl’s basketball season June 30. Anybody who is interested can sign up online at altusok.gov or in person at the city clerk’s office on the second floor of the city complex. Be sure to bring the $25 enrollment fee that is required to participate.
