In just a few short weeks, anybody traveling down Park Lane towards the high school football stadium will no longer see the old familiar marquee that has been sitting on the northeastern corner of that block since the Class of 1997 and First National Bank donated it and had it installed in the fall of 1997.

The sign is showing its age. It is broken in a few places and faded from the harsh Oklahoma weather and it is getting difficult to fix the letters and numbers into place. It was time to make a decision on whether to repair or replace it. Debbie Pearce — the assistant principal of Altus High School — contacted Frazer Bank and discussed with them the possibility of moving forward with the marquee.

Frazer Bank felt the best option was to completely replace the old marquee with a new one, and the bank offered to fund the new marquee entirely. It is a donation that totals $35,000.

“We are very thankful for the generous donation from Frazer Bank,” AHS Principal Rita Beisel said. “We are excited for the opportunities the new digital sign will allow in communicating with the public.”

Not only is the marquee being replaced, it is being moved from its current location to the southeastern corner of the stadium to make it more visible to public driving down Broadway Street.

The new marquee will be completely digital, doing away with the old letter and number tiles that need to be fitted into place. Instead, this marquee will likely be updated through a computer in the high school. This will make communicating events and things of that nature much easier for the school.

Those involved are excited about the new marquee. The school is expecting to have it erected within the next few weeks. The marquee will have the Bulldog school logo to the left of white “Altus High School” lettering on a Bulldog Blue background. Below that is a white background with the words, “Proudly supporting the Bulldogs” with the Frazer Bank logo next to it. Below that is a 44-inch-tall and 97-inch-wide marquee area.
