EDWARDSVILLE — An Alton woman was charged Wednesday in Madison County Circuit Court with two felony charges of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Hydrocodone and Alprazolam), according to a release from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office identified the woman charged as Cassidy K.M. Calvert, 23, of West Elm Street in Alton.
According to the release, on Wednesday, April 23 at approximately 2:15 a.m., a Madison County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle which failed to stop at a red light on State Street at Elm Street in Alton.
The deputy made contact with the driver, and Calvert who was a passenger of the vehicle. Calvert provided the deputy with an alias name and ultimately attempted to walk away from the scene. While walking away from the scene, Calvert threw a purse under a nearby vehicle, the release said.
The deputy stopped Calvert, who admitted she provided a false name. Calvert was arrested at that point, for the misdemeanor offense of Obstructing Identification.
The release said the deputy’s search of Calvert and the purse resulted in the seizure of multiple forms of illegally possessed prescription medications, cannabis, and drug paraphernalia.
Calvert was transported to the Madison County Jail where she was held pending a formal review of facts by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office. The driver was issued a warning for the traffic infraction and released at the scene.
The felony warrant and information was issued by the Honorable Judge James Hackett, who set Calvert’s bond at $20,000. Calvert was also charged with misdemeanor charges of Obstructing Identification, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
