The County Commissioners held their regular meeting on Monday, March 10, with newly elected District 2 County Commissioner Kirk Butler, to discuss items on the consent agenda.

Butler was sworn in by Jackson County District Judge Richard Darby in the Main Courtroom at 8:30 a.m., attended by his wife Tami and daughter Ashley, County Commissioners, Court Clerk, County Clerk, County Treasurer and Commissioner Assistants. He is filling the remaining unexpired term of former District 2 Commissioner Anthony Fixico, to end December 2016, when he plans to run again.

“I am humbled and excited,” Butler said of being elected to represent his district. “I am ready to roll up my sleeves and go to work and see what needs to be done.”

During the meeting, minutes from the previous meeting and reports from the Election Office, Treasurer, District Attorney’s Office, and Court Clerk’s Officer were approved. Two purchase orders for District 3 Drug Court were approved.

There were no other items on the agenda. After approval of claims, the meeting adjourned.

Commissioners held a special meeting on Thursday, March 6, when they awarded a bid from Van Keppel in the amount of $17,000 for one used 1990 or newer 22,500 pound, 8-foot rubber tire asphalt paver for District 1. The other opened bid submitted by Kirby Smith was a no bid.
