SWORW to hopst State School Superintendent candidate

The Southwest Oklahoma Republican Women will meet, Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Best Western of Altus. The guest speaker for this meeting will be Joy Hofmeister, candidate for State School Superintendent.

Joy Hofmeister was appointed to the Oklahoma State Board of Education in January 2012. She is a former public school teacher, career educator and business owner, directing a staff of 40 employees. Joy graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas Christian University, as well as teaching certificates in English and Elementary Education. She will earn her Masters in Education Administration with an emphasis in Education Policy and Law from University of Oklahoma in 2014. She served as an officer on the board of directors for the Jenks Public Schools Foundation, Select Committee for Study of School Finance, and has served on a Math Textbook Adoption Committee and many other committees for serving district, community and professional organizations. Joy has significant experience working with Special Education teams, parent advocates, and students on an Individual Education Plan (IEP). She also has participated in the Trends in International Math and Science Study (TIMSS) research testing. Joy and her husband have been married 29 years and have four grown children who attended Jenks Public Schools kindergarten through 12th grades. Joy resigned from the State Board of Education to pursue a statewide campaign for Oklahoma State Schools Superintendent in the Republican primary on June 24.
