Local man assaulted with machete at Countryside Inn

Two individuals have been arrested following an investigation into an assault on a local man with a machete and bat, according to Detective Kevin Smith, of the Leitchfield Police Department.

At approximately 4:42 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, the LPD and Grayson County Emergency Medical Services responded to Countryside Inn, on Commerce Drive, in reference to a reported assault.

Upon their arrival, Leitchfield police officers made contact with the victim, Dustin Gaston, of Leitchfield.

Gaston stated to police that two individuals had come to his room, and when he opened the door, one of the subjects struck him in the arm with a machete, and the other subject then struck him in the back with a bat, according to a press release from the LPD.

Gavin Piercy, 18, of Leitchfield, and Walter Higgs, 23, of Brownsville, have both been arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree in relation to this incident and transported to the Grayson County Detention Center, the release read.

Gaston was treated at the scene and transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center by GC EMS for treatment for non life-threatening injuries. He was later released from TLRMC.

The case is currently under investigation and additional charges may be pending.

This incident marks the fourth stabbing in Leitchfield in the last twelve months, Smith said.
