City of Altus Park employees and workers performed last minute preparations before the official “Annual Christmas in the Park,” kick-off event scheduled for tomorrow evening, Thursday, Nov. 21, at dark after 6 p.m. at the East City Park on E. Broadway in Altus.
“We have a lot of figures set up this year,” Altus City Parks Supervisor Freddy Perez said, while checking wire connections and setting up final displays.
Members from the Altus High School Brass Band will provide music from 5:30 to 6 p.m. before winner of the “Light Up The Lights” Coloring Contest, 6 year old Lily Leesman, daughter of Sgt. Jeremy and Karen Leesman, flips the switch and turns on the lights at the event.
Santa is also expected to come to town while riding on the brand new aerial platform fire engine that was delivered last month to the Altus Fire Department. After the “Kick-off,” Santa will be at the City Park each night Thursday through Sunday, up to Christmas Day. Christmas in the Park will be closed on Dec. 26.
Get ready for the awesome sights and spirit of Christmas while taking train rides with Santa Claus, and enjoy concessions of hot chocolate, coffee, and nachos. “There will be a little bit of everything,” said Perez.
Perez stated that workers began setting up decorations five weeks ago, and approximately 25-30 people from employees to D.O.C. workers have contributed in the effort.
