Registration forms are being accepted for the Annual Altus Christmas Parade which will step off from Western Oklahoma State College at 3 p.m. sharp on Sunday, Dec. 8. There is no charge to be in the parade but early registration is a must. Deadline for entries is Monday, Dec. 2. Call the Altus Chamber of Commerce if you need entry forms and rules and regulations. Local business and industry underwrite and sponsor the cost of the parade.
The parade begins at Western Oklahoma State College, 2801 N. Main, and will proceed south on North Main to Commerce Street. The parade entries will then disperse as follows: Odd # entries will go West on Commerce St. to various parking lots. Even # entries will go East on Commerce St. to parking lots around City Hall. All trucks will go south to Broadway St.
The parade theme this year is “Christmas on the Western Prairie”. Debbie Davis is the Chairman of the Christmas Parade Action Group. The parade is a community project with the Altus Chamber of Commerce, the City of Altus, Western Oklahoma State College and Altus Air Force Base representatives providing many needed services. The reviewing stand will be placed in front of the First Baptist Church on Main Street.
Cameron Dole and Mary Esparza with KWHW Radio will serve as master of ceremonies.
The Parade Grand Marshal will be Larry Duffy. Larry has recently semi-retired as Director of Development at Western Oklahoma State College but will remain as Secretary/Treasurer of the WOSC Foundation.
Jim Gover, Chairman of the Board of the Altus Chamber of Commerce, Colonel Bill Spangenthal, Commander, 97th Air Mobility Wing, Altus AFB and Mayor David Webb and their families will be on the reviewing stand.
All entries must be decorated. Prizes will be awarded to first place floats in four categories and the Grand Marshal Award. Categories are: Grand Marshal $300, First Place – School and Youth $200, First Place – Church $200, First Place – Civic & Commercial $200, and First Place – Altus Air Force Base $200.
