According to Police Chief Tim Murphy, Altus Police are searching for a man who robbed the Holiday Inn Express at 2812 East Broadway on Friday night. The incident happened at approximately 9:45 p.m.
Video shows a white male, in his early to mid twenties, wearing a dark colored hoodie. He jumped over the counter, confronted the clerk, and demanded she open the cash drawer. Although no weapon was shown, the clerk believed the suspect may have had a gun in the front pocket of his hoodie.
After the robbery, the suspect jumps back over the counter and leaves the through the front door. The suspect was seen running to the southwest from the hotel.
An undetermined amount of cash was taken by the suspect, and no injuries were reported.
Another hotel robbery was reported on Monday evening. Police responded to the Microtel Inn and Suites, 3210 N. Main, at approx. 9:17 p.m.
The clerk told police that he was in a laundry room, next to the front lobby. He heard a noise and exited that room to discover a suspect standing near the front desk. The suspect asked for change, at which time the clerk noticed the cash drawer open. The suspect pushed his way past the clerk and ran east down the hallway and out of the east door of the hotel. A witness saw the suspect exit the east door and told police he continued running south down the alley.
The suspect was described as a thin white male, approx. 5ft. 8in. tall, in his early 20s, with short blond curly hair. He was last seen wearing a gray tank top and blue jeans. He left with an undetermined amount of cash. Police continue their investigation, and although Chief Murphy said that there is no evidence at this time time to indicate the two robberies are connected, “It is highly suspect.”
