Entries ready for viewing

Commercial exhibit set up was done this afternoon with the Jackson County Fair to be open to the public starting at 4 p.m. The fair will run through Saturday.

Entry of poultry, rabbits and guinea pigs will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today, with judging at 5:30 p.m. The 4-H and Open Junior and Senior Youth Farm Hand Olympics will be held at 7 p.m. The Expo Center will close at 10 p.m.

On Friday, the fair opens to the public at 8:30 a.m. with children’s tours and games from 9 to 11 a.m. Kevin Law’s Border Collie Demonstrations will be held at 9 a.m. with Christian Martial Arts by Randy Meli at 10 a.m. Crops will be judged at 4 p.m. Friday

The Family Home Consumer Science Contest will be held Friday from 4 to 6 p.m., with turtle races at 5:30 p.m. Check in of sheep and swine will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday with the Sheep Show being held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., a Turkey Calling Contest at 6:30 p.m. and the Swine Show being held at 7:30 p.m. The 6th annual Weiner Dog Races will be held at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the fair opens at 8:30 a.m. with check in of beef and goats from 10 a.m. to noon. The Tractor Pull Contest will be held at 9:30 a.m., with a border collie demonstration at 9:30 a.m. and the Beautiful Baby Contest will be held at 10 a.m.

At noon, the Pet Show will be held, and hypnotist Mike Breeze will perform at 2 p.m. The Goat Show will be held at 4 p.m. with another Turtle Race set for 5 p.m. The Beef Show will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., with the release of exhibits beginning at 6 p.m. The fair comes to a close at 9 p.m., with the Expo Center locked at 10 p.m.

All fair vouchers must be redeemed at First National Bank by Oct. 11. No vouchers will be paid after this date, no exceptions. Vouchers can be picked up during the fair or at the Extension office. (482-0823) – no vouchers will be mailed.

Other displays and exhibits during the fair will include a Petting Zoo, a Farmers Market Stand, fire trucks and ambulances, and the Lion’s Club Mobile Health Screening Unit on Friday, and a Job Fair on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be special appearances by Miss Altus and Miss Altus Outstanding Teen.
