Funeral services for Oren Baden, 85, of Roosevelt, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at The First Baptist Church in Roosevelt, with the Rev. Ken Baden and the Rev. Tim Tutten officiating.

Mr. Baden passed away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at the Ayers Nursing Home in Snyder.

Oren Lee Baden was born on Aug. 24, 1926, in Mt. Park, to George and Rosa Baden. He attended Mt. Park Public Schools, graduating in 1944. Oren served in the U. S. Army from June 1944 until his honorable discharge in April 1946. While serving in the armed services, he also played trumpet in the army band. He met the love of his life in 1942, and while on leave, he married Geraldine Emmons on Jan. 27, 1946, in Lone Wolf. This blessed romance lasted over 66 years.

Oren and Geri began their farming life together in Cold Springs, Oklahoma and moved to the Consolidated 8 Community in 1957, where they raised their family. They raised cotton, wheat, and cattle. Oren was actively involved with the farming operation until he moved to the Ayers Nursing Home just short of eight years ago.

Oren and Geri have been active church members all their adult life; raising their children in the Cold Springs Friends Church and then becoming members of the Roosevelt First Baptist Church upon completion of the Tom Steed Lake. At both churches, Oren served as a trustee, deacon, Sunday school superintendent, numerous church committees and as a Sunday school teacher for over 35 years. Oren also served as the piano player when needed and could always be seen in the choir. He was a noted bass singer and, along with Geri, sang at many functions and funerals.

Oren served 15 years on the Roosevelt School Board and board of directors on the Con. 8 Gin. The Badens were selected as the 1960 Kiowa County Farm Family of the Year and competed at the state level.

He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Marcia Baden of Lawton, and Randy and Paula Baden of Altus; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Dean Holland of Roosevelt; grandchildren, Kale & Amy Baden of Norman, Kris & Todd Ryans of Oklahoma City, Mandy & Brian Carpenter of Clovis, N.M., Derrick Holland of Roosevelt, Erin & Jimmy Naughton of Boynton Beach, Fla., Haylee & Josh McDorman of Jenks, Megan & Steven Schroeder of Moore, Adam Baden of Lawton, Lacie & Tyler Deckard of Richlands, N.C., and Shawn Easton of Norman; great-grandchildren, Jackson & Kole Baden, Kaleb & Audrey Ryans, Luke & Max Carpenter, James & Hadley Naughton, Maycee McDorman, Durbin Schroeder, and Oliviah & Madilyn Deckard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Rosa Baden; two brothers, Albert Baden and Melvin Baden; a sister, Lucille Hash; a daughter, Cindy Baden Dickerson; and granddaughter, Melissa Jane Baden.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to memorial fund of the First Baptist Church in Roosevelt.
